Ear training drills – part 1

Alright here is the beginning part of the Ear Training series we shall undergo.

Overtime I have gotten messages from students complaining that they don’t seem to recognize sounds as good as other musicians do.
This is a great place to start either as a singer or a pianist getting your ears accustomed to sounds.

This is absolutely useful because with constant practice of these both on the piano and with your voice you will develop your EAR POWER and this will help you figure out the key to a song easily as well.

So if you have been stuck trying to get the keys of various songs then you are in the right place.
Please note that for simplicity sake we will be doing all these drills in the key of C only, however you can still move them to other keys after you are confident with these drills on C.

So let’s begin…

Ear Training Drill #1 – C major scale sing along exercise
In this drill you will press each note of the C major scale singing those notes with the tonic solfa notation respectively.
Press C – Sing Do
Press D – Sing Re
Press E – Sing Mi
Press F – Sing Fa
Press G – Sing Sol
Press A – Sing La
Press B – Sing Ti
Press C – Sing Do (high)

Do this also in a descending order
Press C – Sing Do (high)
Press B – Sing Ti
Press A – Sing La
Press G – Sing Sol
Press F – Sing Fa
Press E – Sing Mi
Press D – Sing Re
Press C – Sing Do (low)

That’s all for now, watch out for part 2 meanwhile don’t forget to try this in other keys.
